Each time a significant honors show nears, there’s always an outcry to include additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room for numerous titles.
Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
- A different innovative game missed out that year
- Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
- Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories
Significance of Puzzle Games
These are often small games, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles worldwide and have been for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience rivals popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.
The Solution and Justification
Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among essential manifestations of gaming itself. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
